The TATP Years: 1970
“Remember the seventies, Stew? Punk and disco and Mike Yarwood doing an impression of Harold Wilson eating a packet of Cadbury’s Smash whilst Marc Bolan looked at a copy of Star Wars Weekly? EH STEW? EH?“ Thats what all the kids were saying in the nineties when the seventies were still big business and all of its stars were still undetected for their terrible, terrible crimes.
But what of 1970 itself? A time before glamourous rock, spitting punkers or any of the big musical or pop cultural events that came in later years – and bad stand-up sets – that people associate closest with the decade. Well, thats what we hope to find out in The TATP Years: 1970, our all-new mix of all-old classic TV, movie, news and oddities. Plus a jambaroo of very different music that was being heard with ears by our nation’s Grimleys.
Inside this free mp3 mix you’ll find lovingly sampled segments of The Stooges, Rolf Harris teaching the Stylophone, The Equals, M*A*S*H, Mike Westbrook, Cook and Moore, Tim Buckley, Rupert The Bear, Josie and The Pussycats, The Vampire Lovers, The Rattles, There’s A Girl In My Soup, Enoch Light, Doomwatch, King Crimson, Performance, Peter Wyngarde, UFO, The Temptations, The Rise And Rise Of Michael Rimmer, Vashti Bunyan, Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls, Syd Barrett, Up Pompeii, Jean Jacques-Perrey, John Peel titting about with some effects knobs, Doris, Beneath The Planet Of The Apes and of course, The England World Cup Squad. Can’t remember which year’s, mind…
The TATP Years and the site itself will be back in September with all good luck so if you like this or any of our free download shows, please share the link if you would. Recommendations, ratings and reviews on iTunes *here* are also hugely important to a small tin-pot set-up like ours.
You can also get in touch via our Twitter feed or our Facebook group, which gets regular updates, along with exclusive Spotify playlists and other bits and pieces. Thank you in advance and have a fantastic summer.
